Over the generations I heard that my 2nd great-grandmother, Ann Shirley, came to the United States from Ulster, Ireland. My family described her as a very cultured woman who was Protestant. She married Bernard Donnolly in Toledo, Ohio in 1860. He was a Catholic who also immigrated from Ireland. I have searched for information about Anna Shirley for many years and have come up with relatively little information before she married Bernard Donnolly. It would be great to hear from anyone with information about any of the Shirley family who came to Ohio before 1860. Many thanks!!

I do not know if this will be helpful, however....
This Shirley family also lived in Lucas Co Ohio in 1860, the same year your Ann Shirley was married
Harmon Shirley M 65 New York Zilpha Decker F 30 New York Mariah Shirley F 24 New York Leander Shirley M 21 New York Cyntha Shirley F 18 New York Agnes Decker F 10 New York
As you can see, this family originates in New York, not Ireland. However, in the 1880 census, the above Harmon Shirley lists his father's birthplace as Ireland.
Maybe they were cousins?
Good luck
