ANNOUNCEMENT FROM FORT BOONESBOROUGH KENTUCKY
Hello Pioneer Family Association Contacts,
It’s the time of year to again start thinking about the “Gathering of Descendants” at Fort Boonesborough State Park in Madison County, KY. This year will be the fifth year for the “Gathering.” One of the aims of the Park and other sponsors is to broaden the information available for the attendees, many of whom are descendants of the pioneers who came to Boonesborough between 1775 and the early 19th century. This is a one day event on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
One area for desired progress is to have more family associations with their detailed genealogical information to attend as “vendors”. This can greatly expand the sources of family histories for the attendees while also gathering their information to increase the data base that a family group already holds.
On behalf of the Park and its sponsors, I would like to invite your family association to participate in this year’s “Gathering” on Saturday, June 15th as a contributor. This is no fee to have a “booth” and those “manning” it are admitted without paying the fort’s entry fee.
Since this is our first contact with you this year, I would first appreciate feedback on the status of your pioneer family association, and if active, who is the proper contact person. Secondly, an reply concerning your possibility of participating in this upcoming event would help our planning. I realize that a more accurate response may take some discussion with your governing board. This will be an iterative process in which Q&A in both directions will occur to resolve unknowns and procedures.
Some genealogical and historical organizations which have participated previously include the Society of Boonesborough (members are validated descendants of early pioneers), the Boone Society, the Kentucky Genealogical Society, MCHS, Clark County Historical Society, the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Land Office, and the EKU Archives. New participants for 2018 were the Callaway Family Association and a representative of the French family.
Lastly, if you are aware of other family associations with ties to pioneer Boonesborough and not listed in the address below, please advise about them to help our contact list.
To reduce the administrative load on the Park as its very busy year gets underway, I will again act as a point of contact to obtain an interest count and provide basic responses to queries. I will pass on your positive interest and keep Park managers informed on progress. Please contact me at my cell 859-582-6963 or at tjbiii@aol.com. I look forward to your feedback with anticipation!
