There are a few Shirley families who are found in the parishes of Aghadowey and Agivey. Rev. McGregor brought to New England in 1719 many Scotch-Irish Presbyterians from that area. Shirley's joined them by 1730, settling in Londonderry, New Hampshire. My Shirley's left the area in 1853, joining many Protestant Irish in Worcester County, Massachusetts. I believe these Shirley's were in Ireland by mid-1600's, but the records are few.
I believe George Shirley, brought his wife and three sons to Grafton, MA, joining his daughters who came before. 1855 census lists two John Shirley's of about the same age, living with George, Jane, James and Joseph Shirley. Interested in communicating with others who have Shirley's in County Londonderry or Worcester, MA.

My ancestors Jane Shirley/Shirlaw married to James Orr May be connected to yours they left aghadowey for Scotland with son William around about time your ancestors left. Not sure exact date they left but both were in their early 20’s when they married there in 1845
