Records show John Ambrose Shirley of Virginia (1770-1843) married "Elizabeth". Possibly Elizabeth Danner (1783-1846) AND/OR Elizabeth Braxton.
Find-a-Grave, Kentucky, says Elizabeth Danner was his wife. Trees on Ancestry all indicate Danner as well, although none have records to prove.
However John Ambrose's sixth child is William Braxton Shirley (10 Mar 1816 to April 1887), a minister in Indiana, Illinois and Kansas who reportedly died in a prairie fire. The use of Braxton as his middle name would generally indicate his mother to be Elizabeth Braxton Shirley.
My question: Who was the mother of AMBROSE SHEPARD SHIRLEY (12 Dec 1798 Kentucky to 5 Nov 1877 Iowa), son of John Ambrose Shirley?

Simple answer. Her maiden name is not known.
Unfortunately people are corrupting Find a Grave with the same nonsense they post to Ancestry. Find a Grave was once a clean "burial/cemetery" database, but people are stupid (sad to say) and have felt an urge to post their silly nonsense to every genealogy site known to mankind. Now the website is corrupted, difficult to know what is true and what is not true.
The problem of course is that repetition of a false claim typically makes the claim become "fact" over time. This is not a new phenomenon in genealogy. We still suffer from speculative, connect-the-dots DAR applications (and sadly their DAR approvals too) from the early 1900s.

I haven't been researching in awhile, so this Thank You is very late. I have seen many trees that have jumped to the assumption that Elizabeth's name was Danner. Thank you!
